Gary Shakespeare Company Announces Summer 2025
Production:
William Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure (set in Chicago,
1920)
Directed by Stephanie Naumoff

The Gary Shakespeare Company is excited to announce
their summer production of William Shakespeare’s Measure for
Measure, directed by Stephanie Naumoff (Lake Station). The
earliest recorded performance of Measure for Measure was in
December of 1604; this Gary Shakespeare production brings the
Bard’s work to Northwest Indiana July 25 - 27, July 31-August
3, and August 7-10, 2025.
One of
Shakespeare’s beloved comedies, Measure for Measure centers on
the moralizing Angelo, a deputy entrusted to rule the city in
the absence of Duke Vincentio, who instead disguises himself as
a humble friar to observe Angelo's regency and his citizens'
lives. Angelo persecutes a young man, Claudio, for the crime of
fornication, sentencing him to death on a technicality, only to
fall madly in love with Claudio's sister Isabella, a chaste and
innocent nun, when she comes to plead for her brother's life.
With these “prohibition” themes in mind, Naumoff has chosen to
set the production in 1920’s Chicago.
Performing in Lake, Porter, and (for the first time) LaPorte
County, Measure for Measure brings FREE SHAKESPEARE to audiences
in both outdoor and indoor venues. For a small entry fee, select
venues will include a Pre-Show Jazz Performance by the Gary
Shakespeare Madrigal Singers. This year’s production includes
the talents of Anthony Velasquez (East Chicago), Alexander
Bonner (Michigan City), Keith Loeffler (LaPorte), Ian Horn
(Munster), Jill Thomas (Trail Creek), Matt Seiluns (Hobart),
Carl Wolf (Hammond), Auriel Felsecker (Gary), Maggie Reister
(Valparaiso), Christina Biancardi (St. John), and Kylie K.
Cooper (Gary).
